  • Now that you have acquired a new puppy, it is important that you provide good care to your new pet.
  • Veterinary Care - Your puppy was given its first set of shots at six weeks old. Puppies need three series of shots as pups and then yearly boosters to protect them from deadly viruses. Puppies are very susceptible to Parvo, Corona, and Distemper viruses. These will cause vomiting and diarrhea. If your pup has any of these symptoms with loss of appetite, take him/her to the vet immediately. It is your responsibility to have your pup immunized at nine weeks and twelve weeks. They should be dewormed at this time as well. Your pup has been dewormed with Nemex at three and six weeks. Rabies and heartworm preventative will be given by your vet at twelve weeks. Note that vaccine protocols may vary from vet to vet. Follow your veterinarian’s advice.
  • Feeding - Feed your pup three times a day. Give lots of fresh water. I recommend Iams, Science Diet, or Puppychow. I sometimes add a little canned food for flavor. As your dog gets older, you may feed him/her more, but less frequently.
  • Exercise - These are large breed working dogs. Please exercise your dog regularly.
  • TLC - Dogs placed outside periodically must be fenced or kenneled (10X12 minimum) and supplied with adequate shelter, shade and water supply. Bullmastiffs are quite susceptible to heat, thus outside shading is imperative.
